| Our task was to turn a dated 10,000 square foot grocery store, located in a 1950's strip mall, into a modern multi-functional entertainment and restaurant facility. The space had a suspended t-bar ceiling, green terrazzo floor and concrete block walls. The client had a large shopping list of ideas and our job was to create the "theme to suit the dream." |

Pace Interior Design was to create two separate theme destinations under one roof. Both would feed the other during the ebb and flow of the average day. One area was to be a cheerful family and sports oriented restaurant (Philthy McNasty's) showcasing local and national sports figures. The other a high / low tech billiards club, full service bar and dance floor (Rock Bottom Billiards). The billiards area also featured large satellite TVs and two lanes of five-pin bowling. Both areas had to say "entertainment" while maintaining distinct themes and providing easy traffic flow between the two.

Space planning, creative use of finishes and resourcefulness was required to meet both the budget and the client's expectations. Like many of the projects Pace Interior Design works on, we try to incorporate as many of the existing conditions as possible. With this project we exposed the steel and wood roof structure and played with the drama of the height.
The detailing on the Phithy McNasty's side was heavily layered with natural wood, sporty colours, lighting effects and a great collection of memorabilia. The exposed ceiling became a vehicle for the art gallery of sport collectibles. On the other side of the dividing wall, in Rock Bottom, we used an entirely different palette of building materials and finishes such as metallic stains, a stone and steel structure bar, brushed steel and aluminum dividers and lighting to present an industrial and dramatic feel. These materials also proved to be durable for what became a packed local nightclub and entertainment forum.
Both the restaurant and bar areas incorporate custom detailing and inexpensive materials for award winning effects. Philthy McNasty's was voted best family restaurant and Rock Bottom Billiards was voted best billiard room in the International Division of Billiards Digest.
